After our trip to the fire station yesterday, Alfie has become rather intrigued with ‘fire engine play’! Fortunately, when Leon was around 4 years old (and also slightly obsessed with fire engines), we were given a large number of toy fire engines and firemen.
So today out they came…
And to go with them I decided to make a burning building! No, don’t worry, I didn’t set fire to the house – it’s just a cardboard box covered in white paper, with windows and people drawn upon it. I then cut out flame shapes into the corners of the box, and pasted orange and yellow tissue paper over them. Lastly, I cut a hole in the far, hidden side of the box, big enough to fit a torch head. And so when you push the torch through, and turn it on…
Ta da! A burning building!
(Here Alfie practices his ‘sshhh’ sounds as the water puts out the fire – note lips!)
And here are some of the books we enjoyed today …
‘Machines at work : Fire Engine’ – An excellent fact book, not too easy , not too hard!
‘Curious George at the fire station’ – This monkey has always been a favourite with my kids…
‘Barn on fire’ – A funny easy reading book about safety.
‘Big Red Fire Engine’ - A fun educational pop up book about the job of a fire engine.

If there is such a thing as reincarnation, I hope I get to come back as one of your children!
Thank you! You are very kind! And thank you for all your lovely comments in the other posts!
