My Son Is Obsessed With Numbers…

…. and number 5 is the current favourite!

Playing with numbers…

Looking for numbers at home…

And while out shopping…

Collecting numbers…

Playdough number shapes….

And sharing numbers in to groups…

My just turned three year old is now able to name and recognise numbers 0 to 9, as well as count up to ten objects. It’s amazing what you can learn simply through play!

Popcorn Post!

This morning Alfie saw this…..

…. and was very eager to make some!

Having experienced Alfie not eating for three days, and not wanting to miss a pedagogic moment, my husband and I jumped at the chance!

First we introduced Maya and Alfie to corn kernals, and compared it to a piece of frozen sweetcorn…

And added a little oil….

And waited…..

And waited…..

Until popcorn was made….!

Happy Birthday Bumble Bee

“Happy Birthday bumble bee, you are not 2 now, but 3 !”

It seems that Alfie has acquired many nicknames in his tiny life, but my ‘bumble bee’ seems to fit him the best – he is always busy, very ‘pretty’, and can get truly as angry as a bee!

Three years have gone by fast – it only seems like yesterday we were expecting him – and yet we already have another baby!

Unfortunately, having been unwell in the last week, Alfie was still ‘under the weather’, and the day was not his happiest day… but here he is (slightly out of focus) letting the family know that the first piece of cake is most definitely HIS!

And although his piece of cake did not get eaten (no, not even the Smarties!), the rest of the family enjoyed the cake, and he did receive some wonderful presents….. delivered by sleigh…..!

Fun With ‘Curious George’

Despite the fact that the ‘Curious George’ stories are┬ápolitically incorrect (what with a monkey being taken from the jungle to be┬áput in to a zoo ‘a very nice place to live’), these stories are classics, and the antics of George have amused all three of my kids for some years.

Alfie has always had a love of monkeys, since he was very small, and I recently read the following ‘Curious George’ chapter book to him, cover to cover…

….. and he absolutely loved it!

And so, an array of monkey based activities emerged…

A little counting fun with ‘5 little monkeys jumping on the bed‘…

And a very simple, but very much loved, factual book about monkeys…

A little jungle role play…..

Searching for cuddly ‘jungle’ animals hidden in the dark, with a torch and homemade binoculars….

And finally, making some delicious ‘monkey bread’ (basically just banana bread with added honey and raisins)….

Monkey see, monkey do!
