Our Summer 2012

It’s been too long since I wrote.

The computer had to go to ‘hospital’ for a few weeks – and I realised that not blogging for a while was actually quite ….. ‘nice’…!

🙂

We’ve had a wonderful summer.

Spending many….

….many…

….many…

….many…

…days by the lake, building….

…and swimming, of course….

And when we haven’t got down to the lake, we’ve made our own water land at home…

We’ve been doing yet more building…

…and building…

…and painting…

…and building…

…and painting…

…..to make this…

…and this…

..to get these…

Four lovely chickens – three mixed breeds and a chilean – twelve weeks old.

So hopefully, in a month or so, we’ll be getting some eggs!

🙂

Sadly we had a little boy very ill in hospital…

😦

….but we’re happy to say he’s all better now…

🙂

We’ve had a bigger boy celebrating a birthday…

(with a liquorice cake with blue butter icing on request)

…in more ways than one…

….and for the fifth year in a row, lego has been the longed for gift…

🙂

We’ve had a trip to Finland…

…where, in order to get there, we slept on a VERY big boat…

...and stayed on a farm…

…with an outstandingly calm horse, who literally just stood in the yard…

…and a wonderfully friendly pot-bellied pig who slept on our front porch…

Alfie was a little frightened of him at first, and decided stroking him with his toes was the best option…

Our cottage was built in the 1700s…

…with a ‘belfry’ at the back..

..and had old four poster beds with ‘lids’ to sleep on…

…and curtains for the people below…

…an old wood burning cooking stove…

..and beams to hang your washing…!

Outside there was a beautiful yard…

…with beautiful flowers…

…and lots of little tractors to drive on…

We stayed in Finland for a week – I’ll tell you more about it in the next post..

Meanwhile, back in Sweden, we’ve had canoe trips…

..during which we picked wild raspberries…

And trips to adventure playgrounds…

We’ve have day time picnics in the forest…

…and evening picnics by the lake…

We’ve discovered waterfalls…

..and bridges…

..and beautiful insects…

..of many kinds…

(yes, there is a butterfly there..somewhere… 🙂 )

Most of all, we’ve been enjoying our garden…

..and it’s produce…

A solitary, but very beautiful sunflower…

…the freedom to pick, and eat, ‘smultron’ (wild strawberries)…

…and many many big strawberries too!

(I have yet to photograph the raspberries, the tomatoes, the lettuce and the carrots!)

And so now, Leon is at scout camp, and Richard is enjoying his last week of holiday.

The children have one more week after this one, and then school starts again.

We’re enjoying every minute!

🙂
