Home Made Traffic School

The other day we took a trip to our local ‘play land’…

…the one with the built in ‘driving school’…

When we came home Maya and Alfie disappeared down in to the play room.

I was told I wasn’t allowed to go down until  ‘it’ was finished.

When I was finally allowed downstairs, this is what I saw...

Favourite Photo Of The Week

‘Mean Pirates’

IMG_9456

Admittedly this photo was taken last week, so is therefore my favourite photo from last week… but times passes fast!

I love this photo quite simply because I treasure the fact that at nearly nine years old my daughter has the imagination and the innocence to still dress up and play make believe.

And I love this photo because my almost nine year old can play with my just turned five year old for hours and hours in a make believe world that adults do not enter …..

🙂

Ice Skating On The Lake

We’re so lucky to have friends down by the lake – with their own ‘personal ice skating rink’…

Despite getting dark early, around 3pm, the sun setting skies never cease to amaze me…

…here the sun was not shining, but the colours were still wonderful…

IMG_9597

We stayed skating long after the sun had set.

The kids had a great time playing in the snow…

IMG_9605

…and Alfie tried ice-skating….

IMG_9609

…and loved it!

IMG_9607

We hope you had a lovely weekend too!

🙂

Wintery Printing Pictures

Just by using some blue paper, white paint and different articles to print with…

IMG_9269

...some wonderful wintery pictures were made.

‘Snowflakes’ and ‘A tank in the snow’ by the oldest…

IMG_9270

IMG_9271

A ‘winter garden’ and the ‘polar express’ by the middle child…

IMG_9272

IMG_9273

And more ‘snowflakes’, and an ‘individual project’ by the youngest two…

Beautiful Snowflakes

Alfie took this photo…

IMG_9037

He said he took it because the snowflakes were beautiful…which of course they are!

(Consequently the picture comes from the book  ‘The Snowy Day’)

We decided to look at them closely though..

…how do they REALLY look?

So we caught some on my glove…

IMG_8979

Tricky to see, but can you see the snowflake shape – especially the one on the top middle?

We decided to try catching them on black felt too…

IMG_8999

…the outline is there of many of them, but the camera found it hard to focus!

Alfie described them as “sharp” and I described them as “spiky”.

Even Ted had a good look…

IMG_9256

Later we decided to play with ‘snowflakes’ inside…

IMG_9253

At one point I wondered if I might regret this…

IMG_9254

…but it turned out the kids had good ‘shovelling’ skills, and I never did!

🙂

Climbing The Rocky Mountain!

A wonderful thing about living in such a snowy climate, is you’re never sure what kind of snow it will be.

It could be ‘perfect for ski-ing’ fluffy – but too fluffy to build a snowman.

Or ‘just below freezing’  fluffy, and just right to build with.

It might be perfect for sledging – or wet and slushy, and not great at all!

Or it could be hard and icy – great for skating…

….and great also for climbing!

—-

At the end of our road the snow plough has left a rather large mound of dirty, rock hard snow.

Evidently , Alfie and Lilly think this is just great – and a castle it’s become!

IMG_9231

As you can see, Alfie and Lilly are very proud of their ‘castle’ – and Ted is proud to be allowed to join them!

There’s been lots of climbing, lots of sliding and lots of lifting going on – excellent for gross motor skills!

Just as long as there’s no eating….!

🙂

A Sensory Snowman

We read ‘The Snowman’ this morning.

IMG_9252

A book we have read year after year after year…

…it never loses it’s magic!

It wasn’t the right kind of snow to build snowmen outside though…so we ‘built’ some inside…

First I printed out a variety of snowman stencils which I found on the web..

IMG_9235

(including a snowman maze to satisfy Alfie’s need for mazes!)

…then I filled a plastic tray with snowman ‘accessories’…

IMG_9234

…which was then covered by a layer of snow…

The kids were then given a spoon each, and had to dig out snow and ‘build’ it on to the snowman shape..

IMG_9239

IMG_9241

Next they had to dig for ‘accessories’ and decorate their snowmen…

IMG_9240

IMG_9250

IMG_9243

Of course, you might find someone might EAT the snow…

IMG_9246

….and you must warn them that their snowmen will MELT…

IMG_9251

…but that’s all part of the fun!

🙂
