Venus Fly Traps & Other Wonderful Plants

Yesterday morning I had the joy of having a morning alone with Leon. This week of planting has enthused him and he wanted to visit the big plant shop.
He had a ‘venus fly trap’ in mind…

The carnivorous plant section was much larger than I imagined!

We inspected them closely, read about them, and even lightly put our fingers in one – yes, it closed! Leon attempted to catch a fly to feed it, but the fly wouldn’t have any of it!
We looked at cactuses…

…discovered the ‘bottle lily’ (direct swedish translation), presumably called because it catches water in its ‘bottle’…

We touched spiky plants, and talked about evergreen and deciduous trees…

…admired twisty plants…

..and plants that reminded us of ‘long green beans’…

Leon rescued a ‘fallen’ orchid…

…and we felt ‘puffy big’ flowers…

…and talked about animals who like to eat bamboo..

We admired the beauty of a clematis..

…and of another pretty orange flower that I couldn’t find the name of…

After looking at all the fruit trees Leon considered the prospect of buying a kiwi tree or an olive tree, but we decided the fruit may never grow in our cold climate outside.
The venus fly trap however, was the overall ‘winner’ and this lucky fellow came home with us…

Lunch out with Leon made for a perfect and educational morning!
