Sweden’s National Day (‘Ralis’ parken)

We celebrated Sweden’s national day yesterday – in one of our favourite play parks in Stockholm…

We don’t get to visit this park nearly enough! It’s full of things to do – even more so today – and the kids had a fantastic time….
…. checking out the ‘spooky forest’..

….bang on the ‘banging wall’..

…..leave your ‘dummy’ on the ‘dummy tree’…..

…..or make a mud pie at the mud pie ‘kitchen’….

The kids enjoyed exploring the various structures, built on the premises….

There were so many other things to see – and what I think is so wonderful, is that most of it is homemade, often with the help of the children who play there!
🙂
But of course, we were there for Sweden’s national day. We came early but the park was soon packed with people, and stall vendors of every choice.
We ate lunch while watching Stockholm’s kulturskolan perform their music…

Everyone was given Swedish flags to sing along to the national anthem…

….and after checking out the stalls (mostly selling food and advertising their companies), we followed the swedish arrows….

…..to the beach……

A beautifully warm sunny day, but the water was COLD! Only Maya and I braved a swim!
The beach was packed with people, but we managed to find a secluded spot by an island, which was great fun to explore, and where the water was shallow…

…and where we could eat an ice cream in peace….

Of course there was still lots of time for flag flying on the walk home. Richard and the older boys had gone ahead, but I walked with Maya and Ted who decided to do a bit of a climb….
