Weaving Rafts From Nature

It’s been a while since I posted. The school start (and the various colds that came with it!), have kept us busy..

A couple of weeks ago we had our autumn scout camp. It was wonderful. Such a relaxing time – and the weather was good to us! 🙂

In the evening we watched the older scouts set light to a bonfire on a homemade raft (made by them of course), and it lay anchored at the edge of the lake while we sang songs as the sun went down. Very cosy.

The next day some of the younger scouts (Maya included) were inspired to make rafts of their own….

The scouts used the reeds by the lake to form a grid, tying them with long pieces of grass and sometimes rope.

When sturdy, they weaved ferns through the grid…

…and even made masts…

We had some very proud scouts when they were finished!
