Messy Snowy ‘Playdough’

We still have no snow here! And we are missing it….!
Luckily for us, we were able to play in the snow over Christmas, when we were up in the ‘fjällen’ (snowy mountains). While there, Teddy was enthused by the snow scooters, the sledges and the snow ploughs. And I found a fantastic book in the library to explore these…

‘Machines on the snowy mountains’. Mulle Meck is a popular character who explains, to young children, about how different vehicles work, and what they do.

I found a basic recipe to make ‘play snow’, and as Teddy is in love with any kind of sensory play, this seemed perfect for him…

Two cups of cornflour, and about 3/4 cup of baby oil mixed together..

And as much glitter as you want to add..

Mix..

..and play…

I added a few diggers with front pushing blades (aka snow ploughs), some dump trucks, sledges and dogs.

…and because the snow was easily mouldable in to balls, I was given the role of chief snowball maker…

This was, by far, the best sensory play we’ve done in a long time. Teddy was kept amused for literally hours – he just loved it!

It was messy – but well worth the mess! 🙂
