Our Week : 3rd – 7th February 2014

I’ve been inspired by bloggers doing a summary of their week – at this point Phyllis at ‘All things beautiful’ and Kate at ‘An Everyday Story’ have been my inspirations…
This week has been a difficult one – one of February coughs and sneezes, and generally feeling under the weather (at least me!), it’s been a week of the man working away from home for too many nights, and it’s been a week of SATS for Leon – the first academic results that will go towards his year 9 finals exams…
Despite that, we have found time to play….
Teddy loves to play ‘house’ right now, and washing vegetables was a lot of fun..

Maya and Teddy did a bit of snow shovelling in the back yard (with all good intentions of making an ice ‘rink’ before the weather got too warm and the snow started to melt..)

Between studying, reading and playing the piano, Leon managed to find the time to do ‘play club’ with Alfie (an older kid’s version of playing schools?)..

20140207-222535.jpg
We made our annual Chinese New Year trip to a Chinese restaurant….

…where the kids practised their chop stick skills (or ‘pick up sticks’ as Alfie calls them..), and Ted posed for the clientele with a napkin on his head…

Alfie decided, at 7am, to list as many things as he could find in the kitchen that began with every letter of the alphabet….

… and Maya used her imagination to create a ‘road maze’ with masking tape for Teddy….

….which he used happily, with both horse and bike…

She then went on to research and draw some swedish traffic signs from the internet…

20140208-073619.jpg
We’ve made heart shaped shortbread biscuits (66 in total!)…

and, on Alfie’s request, heart shaped jelly…

Maya set up a birthday party for Teddy’s cuddly toys…

…which included wrapped presents (unfortunately I missed the main event as I was outside with Alfie).
We bought some new play dough, and Alfie carefully explored the process of mixing and making new colours…

…while Teddy really just mixed… πŸ˜‰

20140208-074440.jpg
….and used this mixed play dough to make heart shaped ‘cookies’….

20140208-074619.jpg
…which Alfie decided would make great window cling-ons….!!!

20140208-074732.jpg
We rediscovered some old toys…

20140208-074834.jpg

20140208-074858.jpg
…and Teddy discovered that actually he COULD use chopsticks – when transporting hearts in to heart shaped boxes….

20140208-075026.jpg

20140208-075047.jpg
…and of course, we had to start on some valentine’s cards…

So, along with school, swimming, piano lessons, scouts and riding lessons, friends and homework, that was our week.
We don’t have the opportunity to be an official homeschooling family like the above bloggers, but we do do our best to give our kids a fun and educational life in our home! πŸ™‚
