This little man has been sick this week…but to see his cheeky happy face, you would never guess…..
…and this is the week he lost his first tooth…
“Do you want to put it under your pillow for the tooth fairy?” I asked.
“No. I want to keep it”, he replied.
Fair enough! 😉👍
There’s been a lot of snow this week.
A snowman kind of week…..
….and back at home again, in the kitchen…
Of course, by the time I took the above picture, half the snowmen had already been eaten up! 😜⛄️
This week Ted and I spent some time discovering about ‘tracks’…..
….in the snow….
The first one a bird ; the second one our cat Blackie ; the third one we suspected maybe a fox ; the fourth one a Ted ; and the fifth one a Ted and his mummy.
There was a sixth one that we couldn’t fathom out…
…could it be the hooves of a deer?
Anyhow, the ‘fox’ prints got us wondering…
We assumed it was a fox, because the footprints were bigger than a cat’s, looking a little like a dog’s – and we followed them from the fence, right around the chicken shed….😳
We also read books about ‘tracks in the snow’ this week….
…not to forget making our ‘own’ animal tracks in the (playdough) ‘snow’….
Yesterday at ‘English Club’ I gave the kids the task of inventing a board game, based on the word….
The game could be about anything – as long as it involved ‘ice’. These were the criteria and questions they needed to think about….
What an amazing group of kids!
These are the things they came up with….
Most chose to work alone, only two worked together. Ideas were very different – though most involved some kinds of animals. And everyone worked hard!
Next week they will be writing out and explaining the rules in english, before getting the chance to try out eachothers’ games. 😉
Yesterday afternoon Leon spent some hours creating a skateboard ‘park’ for his finger skateboards…
…..how nice to see a 7 year old and a 13 year old putting it to use together! 😊
On average, Alfie spends about two hours a day drawing….
His collection of pens – and his love of them, and need to take care of them – is a constant source of amusement to us…
However, Alfie doesn’t draw ‘normal’ things. Alfie draws ‘banas’ (levels), inspired by his older brother, inspired by platform games (of which he plays very few), and inspired by his own role play (which usually combines a little lego man, cuddly toy, or ‘gogo’, and a setting out of what we would term ‘random objects’, but which he would see as ‘an adventure’ for his ‘man’)…
…..however, recently his drawings have changed. In the last week, Alfie (who is allowed to play on the computer for one hour on a monday, and one hour on a friday), has been introduced to the building world of ‘Minecraft’. He, and his friend Vilma, have been creating their own houses and villages, and Alfie’s drawings have turned in to this….
This week was also ‘Tjugondagknut’, which means, twenty days after Christmas, when in Sweden, we say goodbye to Christmas, by dancing around the tree, putting away the decorations – and in our house.. ‘smashing (and eating) the gingerbread house’!
Goodbye Christmas! Until next year…. 🙂
This week, in calling with my ‘New Years Promises’, Teddy and I made bread….
‘Easy white bread’, the recipe was entitled…
Just what I needed!
Ted and I kneaded the bread, and sang a song about kneading the bread, and the ingredients involved – the flour, the yeast, the salt and the water…
..and we were very happy with our end result!
Maya, who is just crazy about ‘Harry Potter’, made some ‘Harry Potter’ finger puppets from gloves, with her friend Elin.
They decided to give a puppet show at school! 🙂
Last weekend we went to the Technical Museum…
Despite everything there, I noticed that Alfie, specifically, was very attracted to ‘slopes’ and ‘ramps’….
There was a lot of experimenting with the above….deciding which was the easiest to run up and which was the most difficult…
…and the more physical..
…and the smaller ones to experiment with, and wonder about….
The day after, we went sledging, and we talked about who went the longest, who went the fastest, and why he thought that was the case.
This week, I took out the marble run…
..and a selection of ‘ramp’ toys that we have…
…plus bringing in the little slide from outside, to test with balls, and assorted things that roll..
So far it’s been Ted experimenting, as Alfie has typically been busy with school and friends – but I’m going to try to get him more involved this week with some other ‘ramp’ type experiments if he’s still interested.. 😉
