A Morning Of Storytelling And Coffee Filter Easter Eggs!

On Sunday Ted got unwell with a stomach bug, so yesterday we stayed at home, and had a bit of a ‘story telling’ morning…
I started with drawing a basket of eggs on the chalkboard…

…and asked him what they were. “Eggs for Easter” came the reply, and then we talked about what Easter was and how and why we celebrate it.
Ted went to get some eggs from our chickens then…

Very rarely does he drop an egg, but this time he dropped not one but two. There was lots of explanation then, about how one egg smashed and all the ‘slimey’ stuff came out, and so he left it there – and how the other egg had a crack in it now. We talked about the colour of the eggs, the size of the eggs, and that the outside was called a shell. Then we cracked them open…

..and talked about the yellow being called the ‘yolk’ and how if our hens had a cockerel, the yellow could have been a chick.
Then I asked him how he would like to eat his egg, and the answer was scrambled – and so we made scrambled eggs..

After lunch we read simple counting poems about rabbits and lambs (Ted’s recently been interested in ‘amounts’ and using his fingers to count).
After some fantastic art work, using dampened egg shaped coffee filter and watered down food colouring…

..we finally finished with a story I told about the arrival of Spring…

..which Ted then decided to retell (using, bizarrely, a packet of wet cat food as a prop!!!)…
