It took us less than 3 hours to fly to Croatia (at the airport of Rijeka in Istria) – the checking in, passport control and claiming of baggage was smooth and quick, and it wasn’t until it came to the renting of a 7 seater car that we had some problems. Despite having booked it, it seems Croatia isn’t ready for 7-seaters yet.. 😆We had a little confusion and a long wait, before riding in two separate cars to our destination – the 7-seater to be delivered the next day.
Our journey to the cottage driven by a Croatian student, meant we learnt about the ‘battle’ between people of Italian descent and Croatian decent here in Istria (stemming from Roman times). It also meant we learnt the Croatian words for ‘thank you’, ‘hello’, ‘you’re welcome’, ‘how are you?’ and ‘where are you?’ 😉
Arrival at our cottage in the valley of Motovun was not a disappointment! In perfect peaceful surroundings, a clean house with lots of space, and a swimming pool!
We were evidently sharing our cottage with other inhabitants…..
I say clean – and the house was clean – but in this mediterranean heat, the small creatures are big – and plenty! Even Alfie is a little taken aback! And yes, that is a scorpion you see – found in our living room!
The first day was spent, understandably, mostly in the pool…
Alfie has taken happily to the water, and will undoubtedly be swimming like a fish by the time we leave – hopefully with his head over the water, as well as under water! 😜 Ted, however, is a lot more cautious, despite Maya and Alfie’s attempts to lure him in….. 😂
Also, of course, lots of time for relaxation…
Maya and I have been enjoying ‘Uno’, the four older ones among us have had our first game of ‘Pictionary’ (great fun!), there have been many games of table tennis, and yesterday Richard and Leon even went for a run! 😄
We decided yesterday, due to the kids being very tired (a first late night, very hot rooms and some anxious sleepers 😉), to do a ‘kid friendly’ trip.
So, to the dinosaur park it was….(apparently dinosaurs lived in this part of Croatia way back then..)…
