A Sandcastle Candle

Today Maya and I made some ‘sand clay ‘.

The ingredients are ;

1 cup (sieved) play sand

1/2 cup cornstarch

3/4 cup water

1 teaspoon alum

golden glitter & seashells (optional)

And instructions to make it are ;

1) Mix alum, cornstarch, glitter & sand with wooden spoon.

2) Add water and mix.

3) Cook on medium to high heat until cornstarch dissolves, and continue to mix until a playdough consistency forms.

4) Cool a little, then sculpt.

And this is what we made ;

It’s a good idea to sculpt quickly as the clay does harden quite fast , and it then becomes tough for little fingers!

In the background you can also see a pot, and a babies’ cradle which Maya made – but we thought the candle was the prettiest…
